The Challenge

Fragmented Wi-Fi, fragmented security, fragmented data.

Like most large campuses, the university's network had grown organically, resulting in patchwork Wi-Fi, disconnected surveillance systems, manual attendance processes, and no single view of facility health or security posture. Sensitive student and administrative data routinely depended on public network infrastructure and third-party cloud services, with no fail-safe if external connectivity dropped.

The university needed a converged foundation, comprising one network fabric, one data platform, and one security posture, that could support today's operational needs and tomorrow's ambitions: autonomous shuttles, smart infrastructure, and campus-wide AI analytics.

The Approach

A converged private network and edge compute foundation.

Delaplex proposed a private, institution-owned wireless network paired with an on-premise Edge Micro Data Center, replacing fragmented Wi-Fi and public network dependency with a single, institution-controlled fabric. A dual-server architecture separates the network core (control plane, network management, mobile device management) from the application layer (surveillance, captive portal, command center dashboards).

Network slicing keeps institutional systems (admin, security, academic records) fully isolated from student and guest traffic, with the guest slice routed through a public network partner rather than touching the internal fabric at all.

Edge Micro Data Center

A dual-server framework in the campus computer centre separates the network core (control plane, network management, device management) from the application layer (video surveillance, captive portal, command center dashboards), all processed on-premise. A private wireless network with 16 indoor and outdoor access points blankets administrative buildings, the library, academic blocks, and perimeter gates.

Intelligent Asset Management

Mobile device management for university-issued hardware, AI-powered video analytics for facility and asset utilization, and biometric/RFID/BLE access control for high-value labs and residences.

Data Management Platform

A centralized command center aggregates network telemetry, surveillance feeds, and facility metrics into one real-time dashboard, feeding directly into the university's ERP and student information systems.

Already live on campus.

Automated number-plate recognition at perimeter gates opens barriers for registered vehicles automatically, cutting congestion at entry points. AI-powered classroom cameras track facility utilization and automate attendance via facial recognition or low-power IoT ID badges, eliminating manual roll calls in large lecture halls. A dedicated connectivity innovation lab lets researchers test next-generation applications, from robotics to environmental sensor networks, on the live private network.

Critically, physical security and access control remain 100% operational internally even if external network connectivity drops, a fail-safe that most fragmented campus networks cannot offer.
